Initial release sales of Mac OS X Snow Leopard during the first two weeks were more than two times greater than Mac OS X Leopard and nearly four times greater than Mac OS X Tiger, reports The NPD Group. While sales of both Leopard and Tiger were down 60% in the second week of sales, sales of Snow Leopard only saw a 25% decrease in the second week.
Despite Snow Leopard being a minor update when compared to Leopard or Tiger, with more stability and performance improvements than new features, sales numbers benefitted from the OS being priced at only $29.99, as opposed to Leopard, which was priced at $199 and Tiger, which was priced at $250.
